"Kwa nini mtu anashuka kihuduma au kiuchumi?" Is a Swahili phrase that translate to “Why does a person decline spiritually (in ministry) or economically?”
In the Gospel perspective, a person’s decline whether in ministry or finances is not usually caused by one thing alone. It often reflects a combination of spiritual, moral, and practical issues.
1. Disconnection from God
- Spiritually, everything begins with one’s relationship with God. When prayer, the Word, and obedience weaken, a person slowly loses direction and strength.
- In John 15:5, Jesus teaches that apart from Him, we can do nothing.
- A decline in ministry often starts when intimacy with God fades.
2. Pride and self-dependence
- Success can lead someone to rely on themselves instead of God. Pride causes a person to ignore correction and drift away from humility.
- Proverbs teaches that pride comes before a fall.
- This affects both spiritual calling and financial stability.
3. Sin and compromise
- Hidden sin or moral compromise weakens spiritual authority and can open doors to failure.
- Sin separates a person from God (Isaiah 59:2).
- In ministry, this can lead to loss of impact; economically, it can lead to poor decisions.
4. Lack of discipline and stewardship
- Economically, poor management of resources spending without wisdom, lack of planning, or laziness can cause decline.
- The Bible encourages faithfulness in little (Luke 16:10).
- Even spiritually, lack of discipline (prayer, study, consistency) leads to weakness.
5. Wrong associations
- The people around someone influence their direction.
- 1 Corinthians 15:33: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
- Wrong relationships can damage both ministry and finances.
6. Trials and testing seasons
- Not every decline is failure. Sometimes God allows difficult seasons to test, refine, or redirect a person.
- The story of Job shows that hardship is not always punishment.
- In such times, what looks like “decline” may actually be preparation.
7. Loss of vision or calling focus
- When a person forgets their purpose or calling, they begin to drift. Without vision, both ministry and life direction suffer (Proverbs 29:18).
Gospel message behind it:
Decline is not the end. In the Gospel, restoration is always possible through repentance, humility, and returning to God. Jesus restores, rebuilds, and gives new life.
