"Mwamba Imara" (also commonly sung as Mwamba Wenye Imara) is a beloved Swahili gospel hymn that translates to "The Firm Foundation" or "Solid Rock". The phrase is often used as the Swahili equivalent of the famous English hymn Rock of Ages by Augustus Toplady, and it serves as a powerful theological declaration of Christ being an unshakeable support during times of suffering, temptation, and doubt.
The hymn uses the biblical metaphor of a strong, immovable rock as a place of hiding and safety from both the wrath of sin and the storms of life (referencing 1 Corinthians 10:4 and Exodus 33:22).
