Godfrey Steven Ft Asagwile & Bruani Kisubi – Upendo | Gospel Audio

“Upendo” is a Swahili word that means “Love.”

In a gospel or worship context, Upendo refers to God’s divine love — a deep, unconditional, and sacrificial love shown to humanity.

In Christian meaning, “Upendo” expresses:
(a) God’s Love for Us
The love of God the Father shown through Jesus Christ.
John 3:16 — “For God so loved the world…”

(b) Jesus’ Sacrificial Love
The love demonstrated through His death and resurrection.

(c) Unconditional Love (Agape Love)
A love that forgives, restores, and never fails.
1 Corinthians 13 — Love is patient, kind, and enduring.

(d) Love Among Believers
A call for Christians to love one another.
John 13:35 — “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

In Gospel Songs
When a song says “Upendo wako” it means:
“Your love” (usually referring to God’s love)

When it says “Nimejaa upendo”
“I am filled with love” — often meaning filled with God’s love.

Therefore “Upendo” is not just romantic or human love — it is holy, faithful, covenant love that comes from God and transforms lives.
