“Yehowa” (also written “Jehovah”) is a name used for God in the Bible. It comes from the Hebrew name YHWH, which is often translated as “The LORD.”
In a gospel or worship context, Yehowa refers to:
- God as the Eternal One – the self-existent God who was, is, and will always be (Exodus 3:14).
- The Covenant-Keeping God – faithful to His promises.
- The Almighty and Sovereign Lord – ruler over heaven and earth.
- The Personal God – close to His people, not distant.
In many African gospel songs, “Yehowa” is used to:
- Praise God’s power and holiness
- Declare trust in Him
- Proclaim His faithfulness and salvation
- Call on Him for help and protection
For example, in worship, singing “Yehowa” often expresses deep reverence, surrender, and confidence that God is supreme and worthy of all praise.
